Adam & Sophie - A Whimsical, Rustic Wedding in Grasmere

Sophie and Adam married in Grasmere.  Poets and painters have been championing this little spot since the 18th century and today it is a literary shrine for Wordsworth pilgrims the world over.  Grasmere is charming; historic, nestled against the fells and the lake, a river through it and gingerbread lovers make pitstops here.  Sophie and Adam fell in love with the place and came from Coventry to marry at St Oswald's Church and party at The Wordsworth Hotel.

Their concept was rustic and whimsical, in keeping with the country surroundings.  The palette was based around the softest pale blush and we worked in partnership with The Floristry and the couple's own crafted details to style the reception venue.

Rachel's images will always speak for themselves with no help from me but I can't help myself...if there is a story to be told Rachel finds it.  I think she has a romantic soul and an open attitude but whatever it is, she finds a way to convey the heart of each event and individual that she photographs and I think it's beautiful.  Well, Sophie and Adam are beautiful anyway aren't they?

The Wild Boar Wedding Fayre. Sunday 22nd February.

Six tablescapes and a whole heap of styling inspiration will be happening at The Wild Boar, Crook, this Sunday for their wedding open day.  I like this venue a lot.   It's a proper country inn with log fires, private woodland and tarn, a smokehouse (for smoking the wild boar, obviously), and a clay pigeon shooting range.  It's all kinds of cosy and it always smells really good, I mean REALLY good, and while smell is possibly not the first thing on your list of priorities when choosing a wedding venue, the combination of wood fires, forest floor, fresh coffee and cooking, coming from the open kitchen, is a winner...in fact if you can't find me on Sunday, I'l probably be dozing in one of the big leather armchairs...

I'm partnering with Kendal floral designer Katie Robinson from Made In Flowers.  Katie and I have worked together on quite a few events now and so I thought I'd revisit a few of those here.  Katie is great, firstly she listens, she's innovative and my word is she efficient?!  She's also been known to chop down her own garden to provide just the right kind of foliage!  We're excited and we're looking forward to meeting new couples and hearing your wedding plans - if you're looking for us we'll be the ones with flowers in our hair.

Peonies & Pheasant Feathers: A Bohemian Summer Table (with a little Midas touch)

Peonies -  big and blousy and completely beautiful, they have more drama and romance than you can shake a stick at.  Growing up, our garden was full of them and I've loved them ever since.  They're so worth the effort of having to prop them up as they grow, just so they can cope with the weight of their own blooms - but oh, those blooms...  In June we put together a summer wedding tablescape for Country Fest in Cumbria that gave these firm summer favourites the limelight alongside an eclectic collection of brown glass, eucalyptus, deep dark reds and pheasant feathers.  The result is unstructured, bohemian but still feminine and gives each peony head room to showboat.

With a UK flowering season from mid spring to early summer, peonies are perfect for late May, June and July brides.

Summer Meadow Wedding - A Styled Shoot with Aspire

Back in May as summer was starting to warm up, I spent a day pottering about in a Cumbrian field with the Aspire team and group of photography delegates.

Courtesy of the inimitable Melissa Beattie, (who I met on this shoot actually - I thank my lucky stars for that introduction), here is some lake district wedding inspiration for brides who like tripping about in meadows and have a fondness for braids, lilacs and a peter pan collar.
